CompUSA

compusaA pioneer in big-box computer retail, CompUSA has been reduced to about 15 stores (down from more than 200 outlets in 2006), mostly in Florida, but also in Texas, and Puerto Rico, as well as an e-commerce site. Declining PC sales led to the 2007 decision to close or sell all of the retailer's stores. The CompUSA brand, Web site, and 16 retail outlets were acquired by Systemax in 2008 as a vehicle for the expansion of its TigerDirect subsidary, a multi-channel retailer of computers, consumer electronics, and digital media technology, and peripherals. Prior to its purchase by Systemax, CompUSA was bought by liquidator Gordon Brothers Group, which acquired it from its previous owner Mexico's Grupo Carso.
