A visually appealing web site, clearly posted contact information, lots of awards (from legitimate places), and grammatically correct text on site, all help make BlueHost seem like a formidable web host. A great feature (that seems to be awfully rare) is that BlueHost provides a demo of their control panel (a very slightly customized cPanel using the X skin) that actually works and isn’t impossible to find. It’s a great feature that allows you to review how cPanel works if you aren’t familiar with it.

1&1.com is a giant web hosting company. They have almost 6 million customers and more than 2,400 employees, and in excess of 37,000 servers. You’ve probably seen their 10+ page ads in magazines or heard about them from friends or colleagues. They are definitely an industry leader and a well known company in the web hosting industry.

GoDaddy.com is the world's largest domain name registrar. Founded by Bob Parsons in 1997, The Go Daddy Group has grown to include more than 14.6 million domains under management. Bob Parsons is quite a character. A former Marine (served in Vietnam), he became a programmer and found success with a software company called Parsons Software. After he sold that company to Intuit, he started GoDaddy as a hobby. He's very vocal about keeping the customer first, and he's not shy about sharing his political views. Some find this offputting, but frankly the Insider could care less... if the service works, I'm all about using it.
